MIKE COLLINS - Engineer/producer/composer

Recording engineer/producer Mike Collins started out in 1981 producing jazz/funk band "Light Of The World" for EMI records and produced a top 40 hit with his first single for the band - "Ride The Love Train" - in November 1981. Throughout the 80's Mike worked variously as a producer, MIDI programmer and session musician - mostly with R & B, Soul and Funk artists including Cameo, Shannon, Kurtis Blow, Jermaine Stewart, Aurra, Millie Scott, Joyce Sims, Farley "Jackmaster Funk", and even Barry Manilow! Notable jazz-oriented productions included Julie Roberts & The London Comm unity Gospel Choir performing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "I'm So Glad" for Bluebird Records and a series of pre-recorded broadcasts of jazz material for Capitol Radio featuring various top session musicians.

In the early 90's, as a MIDI programmer, Mike was in the charts again, working on a No.1 hit for the Chimes - the Street Remix of "I Still Can't Find What I'm Looking For" featuring an incredible vocal performance by singer Pauline Henry on this popular U2-penned song. A remixed version of the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams", string arrangements for Indie band 'Moose', additional recording and editing work on the Shamen's hit "Boss Drum" album, and many other sessions on dance-oriented albums and singles.

A re-evaluation of personal goals at the beginning of 1999 led Mike back to his interest in Jazz music. Having set up a professionally-equipped home project studio to record small groups of musicians, the decision to start recording 'live' jazz was taken in the summer of 1999. The first completed project - "thumbnail Sketches"a solo album featuring guitarist Jim Mullen - is now being offered to interested record labels with a view to securing a commercial release.

Mike Collins has a BSc Degree in Electro-Acoustics with Music, an MSc Degree in Music Information Technology, is a member of the Audio Engineering Society, and is the Head of the Technical Section of the Music Producers Guild.
